Here is a map of the A3, it goes south from London to Portsmouth. We will stay in Liss, inbetween Petersfield and Haslemere. There are quite a few interesting places on the A3 to stop at;
Woking - from Wikepedia: In 1849, Necropolis (cemetery) was first proposed for Woking Parish by the Board of Health. Whilst in 1879 St John's Woking Crematorium was built to be used for the first time in 1884 when the first cremation in the UK was performed. H. G. Wells wrote his book The War of the Worlds whilst living on Maybury road in Woking in 1898. Many scenes from the story are set in Horsell, Woking and the surrounding area.
Most importantly it is the birth place of Paul Weller.
Hindhead - They are currently building a massive tunnel through the 'Devil's Punchbowl', a huge hole which I reckon was created by a meteor), this will be finished in 2011. See link here.
Butser Hill/Queen Elizabeth Country Park - Nice scenic hill and area.
Leigh Park - Massive estate, my Dad used to be an ice cream man there.
Portsmouth & Southsea - Southsea is a bit like Southend, Old Portsmouth has lots of history - Mary Rose, HMS Victory...
